PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slot machine having a new entertainment characteristic and a playing method thereof. SOLUTION: In the slot machine provided with a controller for executing a basic game for randomly rearranging a plurality of symbols, when scatter symbols are included in symbols rearranged on a display region, it is controlled so as to make a payout according to the number of the scatter symbols or a payout according to a winning combination formed by the scatter symbols and other symbols, or both of the two payouts. The scatter symbols not only become special symbols for generating a dividend by simply appearing within a display region, but also become wild cards for realizing a winning combination associated with a payout, so that a plurality of different dividend opportunities occur when scatter symbols appear.
