The arrangement includes an air/fuel ratio sensor (26) for providing a current (I) which represents an air/fuel ratio ( lambda ) of a mixture for the combustion engine, in response to a voltage (V) supplied to the sensor. An air/fuel ratio control arrangement (50, 201 to 226) provides a feedback control of the air/fuel ratio, based on a deviation of the current of the sensor from a current representing a nominal air/fuel ratio ( lambda TG). A sensor output detection arrangement (50, 101 to 113) determines whether the current of the sensor has changed more than a predetermined value with respect to a value in an initial condition. A feedback control trigger arrangement (50, 203, 204, 210) initiates a feedback control of the air/fuel ratio, if the detection arrangement detects a change, more than the predetermined value.
