Provided is a positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion battery that exhibits favorable battery properties. The positive electrode active material for a lithium-ion battery is represented by the following compositional formula: Li (LixNi1-x-yMy) O2+alpha. (In the formula, 0<=x<=0.1, 0<y<=0.7, M is a metal, and alpha>0.) Powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) yields the following: the full width at half maximum of 2theta of the diffraction peak of a (003) surface is 0.14° or less. |
