This image display device 1 is provided with: a laser light source unit 10; a screen 12 that comprises at least two diffusion members; a vibration mechanism 13 that causes at least one of the diffusion members to vibrate; and a scanning element 11 that scans a laser light on the screen in a first direction (y direction) and a second direction (x direction) that is orthogonal to the first direction.　The scanning speed of the scanning element 11 in the second direction is greater than the scanning speed in the first direction, and the diameter D of the laser light on the screen in the first direction is larger than the spacing Yp, in the first direction, of a scanning path in the second direction on the screen. This makes it possible to provide an image display device that displays an image having high brightness and few speckles without vibrating the diffusion members at high speed.
