PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely turn a nip release lever to a nip position even in the subsequent cover opening/closing operation, in a fixing device in which the nip release lever turns interlocking with the opening/closing of the jam access cover. SOLUTION: A fixing device unit 4 is structured so that when the jam access cover 7 is opened, the front portion of the engagement part 70a of the cover 7 comes into contact with the back portion of a nip release lever 50 located in a nip position, and the nip release lever 50 is thereby moved in a cover opening/closing direction from the nip position to a nip release position, and so that when the nip release lever 50 is in the nip position when the jam access cover 7 is closed, the nip release lever 50 is displaced from the nip position to a retraction position while the back portion of the engagement part 70a is in contact with the cover front portion of the release lever 50, and the engagement part 70a is allowed to move apart.
