<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and method which effectively compresses stored image data to a memory whereby enabling a high-speed and high image quality operation, without increasing the memory capacity. <P>SOLUTION: To effectively utilize a memory in a printer 50, line data are generated, based on the document data to be printed, and compressed by line units, based on the specified line compression threshold; and, if compressed page data generated by the compression line by line does not become less than a desired data quantity (page size threshold) thereafter, the compressed page data are page-compressed and are fed to the printer 50. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
