PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an engine and a main frame above the engine closer to each other, in a starter motor peripheral structure of an engine disposing a starter motor on a crank case. SOLUTION: The starter motor peripheral structure comprises the starter motor 61 disposed on the crank case 18 so as to have a rotation axis C4 parallel with a crank shaft 17, and a mechanism storage portion provided on the crank case 18 so as to store a starter transmitting mechanism 71. Front and rear motor mounting bosses 76a, 77a mounting the starter motor 61 are disposed before and behind the mechanism storage portion, and a motor fixing portion 78 of the starter motor 61 is fastened to the front and rear motor mounting bosses 76a, 77a by bolts extending along a lateral direction.
