A method of operating an electronically commutated motor on a fluctuating DC voltage comprises an end stage controllable through a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal by producing a motor current value (PWM-V1) from a current regulator according to an ideal current value (I-S = U-I) for the fluctuating DC and an actual current value (I-I). The PWM signal is then produced according to this motor current value for the end stage to influence the motor current. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A regulator for the above method;and (B) A method as above.
