PURPOSE: An automatic charging system and return method for a robot is provided to quickly and precisely connect the robot to a charging unit. CONSTITUTION: An automatic charging system for a robot is composed of a charging unit(300), a plurality of infrared receiving units, and the robot. The charging unit has first and second infrared generating units(301,302) for outputting first and second infrared rays and guiding a robot cleaner. The infrared receiving units are rotatably mounted to the robot cleaner, and receive the infrared rays. The robot has a micro computer for detecting the charging unit.
