PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely perform skew correction upon image data. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an address specifying unit 311 that specifies an address in a storage device which stores therein data of pixels in accordance with a position where an image is optically read; a read requesting unit 312 which requests reading of data, including pixels as many as the number of pixels forming a line, indicating the number of pixels to be read, from the address specified on a line in a main scanning direction along the main scanning direction in which the image is optically read; a line buffer writing control unit 402 which writes the read data of pixels as many as the number of straight advancing pixels into a line buffer; and a shifting unit 313 which shifts the address specified by the address specifying unit 311 in either one direction along a sub-scanning direction which is perpendicular to the main scanning direction and or a direction opposite to the direction by a predetermined amount.
