PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element of high quality wherein the thickness of an electrode does not vary widely and an organic layer is not much damaged.

SOLUTION: This light emitting element has a first electrode, a second electrode facing the first electrode, and the organic layer containing a luminous layer formed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The second electrode includes a conductive and protective layer for protecting the organic layer formed on the organic layer, and a conductive main electrode layer formed on the protective layer.
