A method for calculating a medium play time is provided to definitely compare a played time till now with a playable time from now and to offer the comparison result to a user. A method for calculating a medium play time comprises the following several steps. An overall play time of a medium and its sample information are extracted from a medium file in accordance with a progressive download service(S10-S12). Sample sizes per unit time are calculated by using the extracted overall play time and the sample information(S13). A size of data downloaded till now among the medium file is compared with a value resulted from addition of the sample sizes per unit time(S15). If the size of the data downloaded till now is bigger than the value resulted from the addition of the sample sizes per unit time, the time matched with the number of the sample sizes per unit time is outputted as a playable time of the medium(S16). |
