PURPOSE: A rain sensor operation control device and a method thereof are provided to reduce electronic power which is consumed by a rain sensor and to prevent an LED(Light Emitting Diode) from being heated by suppressing unnecessary lighting of the LED. CONSTITUTION: A rain sensor operation control device comprises a luminous intensity sensor(20) and a control unit(30). The luminous intensity sensor senses luminous intensity around a vehicle. The control unit variably controls a detecting operation period of a rain sensor(10) according to current luminous intensity values based on a luminous intensity detecting signal. The current luminous intensity values are compared to a predetermined standard level by the luminous intensity sensor. The value of the detecting operation period is set to be short in a section in which the luminous intensity value is low.
