PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the positioning speed of a head protective part relative to passenger head. SOLUTION: This air bag device for side impact has a first gas passage 9 of tube shape formed along the outer edge of a head protective part 6, and a second gas passage 10 formed along the boundary between the head protective part 6 and a chest protective part 5 and connected at one end thereof to one end of the first gas passage 9. A gas lead-in port 11 for leading gas from an inflator is formed at the first gas passage 9. An upper gas exhaust port 12 opened into the head protective part 6 and a lower gas exhaust port 13 opened into the chest protective part 5 are formed at the second gas passage 10.
