Systems and methods for binding a text body (24) are described. A multi-function sheet binder (100) is configured to heat a preformed solid hot melt adhesive (94) to a melting temperature, form the melted adhesive by pressing the melted adhesive into a spine (34) of a text body (24) and folding down edges of the melted adhesive into contact with the text body (24), and actively cool the formed adhesive. A spot heater (86) is configured to heat one or more localized areas of a solid hot melt adhesive (94) to a temperature sufficient to tack the hot melt adhesive (94) to a text body spine (34). An adhesive former (112) is configured to press a localized region of a preformed heated solid hot melt adhesive (94) into a spine (34) of a text body (24) and to fold down edge regions of the preformed solid hot melt adhesive (94) into contact with the text body (24).
