METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF CARBONIZED CLOTH, AND CARBONIZED CLOTH PRODUCED BY THE METHOD

Disclosed is a method for producing a carbonized fiber cloth by carbonizing a raw fiber cloth under heating, wherein the raw fiber cloth is a woven fabric, a knitted fabric or a woven and knitted fabric composed of a cellulose fiber yarn. The method comprises the steps of: holding the raw fiber cloth which has been dried to such an extent that the moisture content becomes less than 25% by restraining the cloth in a vertical or transverse direction; heating the cloth continuously to a temperature ranging from 250 to 450°C at a heating rate of 50 to 200°C/hour under an oxidizing atmosphere having an oxygen partial pressure of 50 mmHg or higher and subsequently to a final heating temperature ranging from 1000 to 1600°C at a heating rate of 50 to 200°C/hour under a non-oxidizing atmosphere having an oxygen partial pressure of less than 50 mmHg in a heating furnace; and heating the cloth by retaining the cloth at the final heating temperature for a predetermined time period. The method enables to produce a carbonized cloth having excellent electrical conduction property, heat resistance, electromagnetic wave absorption property and the like and also having excellent mechanical strength and flexibility in a relatively simple and economically advantageous manner.
