PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for melting a chromium-containing steel with which nitrogen can efficiently be reduced while restraining the wearing of refractory in a decarburizing furnace without using expensive flux. SOLUTION: Decarburizing treatment is applied to molten steel containing chromium with a decarburizing furnace, and the decarburized molten steel containing chromium is tapped off into a ladle without applying deoxidization, and when this molten steel is tapped off into the ladle, a deoxidizer is beforehand charged in the ladle and on this deoxidizer, the molten steel is tapped off and weakly deoxidized. To the molten steel weakly deoxidized in the ladle, a deoxidize-refining treatment is applied with a decarburize-refining furnace provided with a pressure reducing means, with which the pressure in the atmosphere can be reduced to perform the main deoxidization and thus, denitrogenize-reaction accompanied with the decarburize-reaction is progressed and the nitrogen concentration in the molten steel after decarburize-refining and the main deoxidize-treatment, is reduced.
