This display device is provided with: a display unit provided with a function for allowing the rear of the display screen to be seen therethrough; and a control unit for controlling the display unit on the basis of an input video signal. The control unit controls the display unit such that, on the basis of the input video signal, a transparent video, which has a transparent section through which the rear of the display screen can be seen, is displayed while a main video is being displayed. The control unit generates an instruction signal indicating the display period of the transparent video, may control the display unit in accordance with the generated instruction signal, and may control the display unit in accordance with an instruction signal supplied from an external unit. Accordingly, a see-through display device is provided which does not obstruct the field of view when displaying video over a long period of time. |
