PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support which has excellent dimensional stability and crack resistance and can constitute a ferromagnetic metal thin film type magnetic recording medium of high density having a small dimensional change caused by a change in environment and a low error rate. SOLUTION: The support for the ferromagnetic metal thin film type magnetic recording medium has a layer (layer M) provided on one surface of a polyester film and containing a metal based oxide, the layer M having a thickness of 50 to 200 nm, wherein the support has 0 to 75% total ray transmittance and the surface of the layer M has 1×10<SP>2</SP>to 1×10<SP>13</SP>Ωsurface resistivity.
