This transmitter has: a transmission amplifier for amplifying the power of a transmission RF signal; a bandpass filter for suppressing frequency components, other than a desired frequency component, in the transmission RF signal amplified by the transmission amplifier, and outputting the signal to an antenna; an extraction unit disposed between the transmission amplifier and the bandpass filter, for extracting, in the form of a traveling wave signal, a portion of the transmission RF signal amplified by the transmission amplifier, and for extracting, in the form of a reflected wave signal, a signal produced by reflection of the transmission RF signal by the antenna; an RMS calculation unit for calculating individual RMS values for the traveling wave signal and for the reflected wave signal extracted by the extraction unit; and a VSWR calculation unit for calculating a VSWR value on the basis of the individual RMS values of the traveling wave signal and the reflected wave signal calculated by the RMS calculation unit. |
