PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure discharge lamp capable of suppressing variation in the size of meshes of a mesh material, in a constitution including a mesh material on the outer periphery of a luminous tube.SOLUTION: A high pressure discharge lamp including a luminous tube 510, and an outer tube for housing the luminous tube internally further includes a cylindrical member 520 covering the outer periphery of the luminous tube, and a mesh material 530, i.e., a reticulated reinforcement member. The mesh material 530 has a plurality of engaging parts where a linear portion having a bend or a curved part is engaged with other linear portion at the bend or curved part, and has a curved part disposed between two adjacent engaging parts out of the plurality of engaging parts.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
