The present invention obtains image quality with a feel like that of traditional movies shot on film and eliminates rolling shutter distortion. In order to do this, an imaging device is provided with a mechanical shutter that performs a shutter operation provided in an incoming light path, an imager unit, a mechanical shutter drive unit, an imager drive unit that executes an electronic shutter operation which performs exposure of each portion of an imager in the imager unit at a different exposure timing and a control unit. Under the condition of video imaging, the control unit sets a mechanical shutter operation of the mechanical shutter drive unit as an effective shutter operation wherein the open period of each frame period of the mechanical shutter is set within the period in which all imaging pixels of the imager unit are exposed. |
