PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal compound composition that serves as a positive electrode material for lithium ion secondary batteries excellent in battery characteristics, particularly, charge/discharge cycle characteristics, and a simple method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A metal compound composition includes trimanganese tetraoxide on its surface. It is preferable that a metal compound is a compound which contains at least either nickel or cobalt. Such metal compound composition can be obtained by a metal compound composition manufacturing method which includes a crystallization process in which trimanganese tetraoxide is crystallized, without passing through a manganese hydroxide, from an aqueous manganese salt solution that contains metal compound particles whose average particle size exceeds 5 μm, and manganese ions. |
