The invention relates to a method of updating a routing information table and to the corresponding router. More specifically, the invention relates to a routing information table which is stored in a router (5) of a communication network for transmission of datagrams (100) and which comprises lines that are associated with respective routes. According to the invention, a charge rate value is assigned to each route. The inventive method of updating the routing information table consists in adding an additional line to the table, which is associated with a novel route between the router (5) and a determined sub-network. The additional line is added when all of the charge rate values assigned to the routes between the router and the determined sub-network corresponding to the existing lines in the table are greater than or equal to a fixed threshold.
