PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operational reliability by eliminating the possibility of erroneous operation of a hybrid superconducting current limiter. SOLUTION: In the hybrid superconducting current limiter, a superconductor and a breaker are connected in series, a drive part constituted of a drive coil and an electromagnetic repulsive plate, and a short-circuit contact are connected in parallel, a circuit constituted of the drive part and the short-circuit contact, and a current-limiting element are connected in series, the circuit constituted of the superconductor and the breaker, and the circuit constituted of the drive coil, the short-circuit contact and the current-limiting element are connected in parallel, and a power semiconductor element switch is included which is connected to the circuit constituted by the superconductor and the breaker in series, which holds an ON state at ordinary time, and which changes to an OFF state by being driven by the accident sensing signals generated by the inflow of an accident current.
