PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic wave amplifier and electromagnetic wave oscillator capable of amplifying an electromagnetic wave of high frequency bands widely ranging from a millimeter wave to a light wave, with a completely new configuration.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave amplifier obtains output of an amplified electromagnetic wave by: accommodating a semiconductor including a flow of free electrons driven by an applied electric field in a waveguide device having a transmission direction which is the same as the driven direction; making an electromagnetic wave propagating inside the waveguide device be in a TM mode, and selecting a frequency of the electromagnetic wave so that the frequency is higher than a plasma frequency of the free electrons and lower than a nominal cut-off frequency of the TE mode of the waveguide device; and making the free electrons and the electromagnetic wave be driven in the same direction in the waveguide device. |
