The sliding carriage (1) is used for producing a smooth horizontal paving surface. Rails (6) are laid on either side of the strip to be paved and sledge runners (36) and rollers (13) engage the rails and support the carriage. The carriage is pulled along the rails by a rope (5) attached to two towing lugs (31). There is a sprinkling device (27) which may spread soft pasty surfacing material from a hopper. There is a scraper behind the sprinkler to smooth the surface (33) of the freshly deposited road material.
