PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching pattern switching method capable of reducing the number of times of switching at the time of sector shift transition in an AC-AC direct converter equipped with a plurality of bidirectional switches Sru-Srw, Ssu-Ssw and Stu-Stw. SOLUTION: A plurality of switching patterns each arranging five spatial vectors per one control cycle are generated. This method executes either usual update processing or update switching processing such that, for example, in a transient period in which an input sector shifts, when the switching patterns are updated at a timing of a spatial vector disposed on one end of the generated switching patterns, the input sector shifts to a spatial vector disposed on the other end of a switching pattern to be provided to subsequent PWM control, and when the switching patterns are updated at a timing of a spatial vector disposed on the other end of the switching pattern, the input sector shifts to a spatial pattern disposed on the one end of a switching pattern to be provided to subsequent PWM control.
