PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device capable of intelligibly show a part changed by the update of map data to a user. SOLUTION: When road map data is updated, if added or modified link data (road) of the road map data before the update exists, a highlighting flag to be imparted to the data is set, and when a road map is displayed by using the road map data, the road based on the link data to which the highlighting flag is set is highlighted (S320). The highlighting flag judges, from the elapsed time after the update of the link data or the cumulative display time of the road based on the link data, whether highlighting of the road is necessary or not. When the elapsed time or the cumulative time exceeds a set time, the highlighting flag is reset (S300), and the display of the road is brought back to normal display (S310).
