PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a degenerated optical parametric oscillator that does not require a device in which there are optical elements capable of handling two very different wavelengths.SOLUTION: An optical parametric oscillator includes: two pump light sources 1, 2 that output two time-synchronized optical pulses having different optical frequencies fp1, fp2 at a repetition period Tp; optical multiplexing means 3 that multiplexes and outputs the two optical pulses; and an optical resonator 4 including tertiary nonlinear optical medium 42 that performs optical parametric amplification by the two optical pulses input from the optical multiplexing means 3 at the same clock time and an optical filter 43 having a transmission light frequency fs. The optical frequency fs of the optical filter 43 is set so as to establish relation of fp1+fp2=2fs. Resonator length of the optical resonator 4 is that a time for a generated optical pulse to circle around the optical resonator 4 is N(Nis any natural number) times the repetition frequency Tp of the pump optical pulse, and a relative phase between generated optical pulses is 0 or &pgr;. |
