PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing natural astaxanthin useful for the heightening of color of cultured fishes and shellfishes, and also utilized as a health food, more simply than the conventional method of production by using yeast, green algae or the like. SOLUTION: This method for producing the astaxanthin by finding that microorganisms belonging to the genus Brevandimonas produces the astaxanthin in a high selectivity, is provided by culturing the bacteria belonging to the genus Brevandimonas and having a capacity of producing the astaxanthin, and collecting the astaxanthin from its cultured material.
