The method involves measuring an average direct current consumed in a charger device using an average direct current measuring unit. The pulse width of a periodic signal, which is applied to a control transistor of the device, is modified with a rectangular voltage pulse supplied by a controller of the device based on the level of the measured current. A charge current in a portable object is regulated based on the measured current and the modified pulse width. An independent claim is also included for a charger device for implementing a charge current regulating method.
