PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute data rearrangement in response to a policy of a user, under an environment mixed with a plurality of storage devices. SOLUTION: The volumes of the storage devices A-D are virtually managed centralizedly. A host recognizes the plurality of storage devices A-D as a single virtual storage device. The user can group optionally the respective volumes of the storage systems, as a plurality of storage hierarchies 1-3. For example, the storage hierarchy 1 can be defined as a highly reliable hierarchy, the storage hierarchy 2 can be defined as a low cost hierarchy, and the storage hierarchy 3 can be defined as an archive hierarchy. The respective storage hierarchies are constituted of the groups of the volumes corresponding to the respective policies (high reliability, low cost, archiving). The user assigns the volumes V1, V2 of moving object, by group units, and the data is rearranged when indicating the storage hierarchy of a side to be moved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
