<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a lithographic printing plate support which can obtain an original lithographic printing plate with excellent smear resistance and resistance to plate wear, even when electric energy required for the performance of an electrochemical surface roughening treatment. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, a first electrochemical surface roughening treatment using alternating current in an aqueous solution containing at least nitric acid, aluminum nitrate and hydrochloric acid, an etching treatment in an aqueous alkali solution and a second electrochemical surface roughening treatment using alternating current in an aqueous solution containing nitric acid, are performed to an aluminum plate in that order.
