PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fentanyl composition for intranasal administration, capable of obtaining an effect onset time comparable to that of its intravenous administration, etc. SOLUTION: This medicinal composition contains the fentanyl or its salt having an equivalent concentration to approximately 0.4 to 75 mg/ml fentanyl in an optional solvent. Therefore, the treatment of acute pain by using a sufficient amount of intranasal administration of fentanyl results in the onset time of its action comparable to that of its intravenous administration and significantly quicker onset of its action than that by the intranasal titration of the fentanyl. The intranasal administration of the fentanyl by a sufficient amount to obtain the relief of pain, results in a low maximum plasma concentration comparable to that of the intravenous administration and lower rates of adverse events such as respiratory depression, nausea, vomiting, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
