A method for controlling a display part of a mobile communication terminal, and a mobile communication terminal for performing the same are provided to reduce power consumption of a mobile communication terminal by allowing the user to control an ON/OFF state of a display part according to his intention. An input unit(60) generates a turn-on signal for requesting a display part(42) to be turned on or a turn-off signal for requesting the display part(42) to be turned off. A controller(70) checks a current ON/OFF state of the display part, and when the turn-on signal is inputted from the input unit in a state that the display part(42) is in an OFF state, the controller(70) controls a power supply unit(80) to turn on the display part(42). When the turn-off signal is inputted from the input unit(60) in a state that the display part(4) is in an ON state, the controller(70) controls the power supply unit(80) to turn off the display part(42). |
