<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photodetector for an optical pickup, capable of dealing with various arrangement direction angles and various sizes regarding a photoelectric conversion area. <P>SOLUTION: A main photodiode 22 on which a reflected light from a main spot on a disk is made incident is divided into two equal parts in the direction of a reference line, and into four equal parts in a direction orthogonal to the direction of the reference line, comprising totally eight divided photodiode areas A to H. Each of first and second subphotodiodes 23 and 24 on which reflected lights from two subspots are made incident is divided into four equal parts in a direction orthogonal to the reference line, thereby comprising four divided photodiode areas J, K, M and N. Thus, by changing the electrical connection of each divided photodiode area of the first and second subphotodiodes 23 and 24, various inclined angles with respect to the reference line within a horizontal surface around the main photodiode 22 of the subphotoelectric conversion area are dealt with. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
