PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-headed surface grinding device capable of stabilizing the accuracy of processing a workpiece without making sharpening at regular intervals when a grinding element equipped with a self-regenerating function is used while only a minimum necessary sharpening is applied when other types of grinding elements are used. SOLUTION: The double-headed surface grinding device is equipped with a pair of grinding elements arranged confronting coaxially, grinding element driving means to rotate the grinding elements individually, a workpiece holding means to hold a workpiece, a workpiece driving means to rotate the workpiece, and a drive controlling means to conduct a drive control of the grinding element driving means and the workpiece driving means, and further the arrangement includes an current value difference computing means to compute the difference in the load current value between the grinding element driving means and an current value difference determining means to determine which is greater, the current value difference obtained by the current value difference computing means or the the preset threshold, wherein the drive controlling means inverts the driving direction of the grinding element driving means on the condition that the current value difference being equal to or above the threshold is determined by the current value difference determining means.
