PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb catalyst body which has high mechanical strength, and is excellent in purification performance of exhaust gas and low in pressure drop.SOLUTION: The honeycomb catalyst body includes: a honeycomb structure 10 having porous partition walls 1 for partitioning and forming a plurality of cells 2; opening sealing parts 8a on the outflow side; opening sealing parts 8b on the inflow side; and catalyst layers 5 formed on the surfaces of the outflow cell side of the partition walls 1. The cells 2 of the honeycomb structure 10 are constituted so that the opening area, in the cross section perpendicular to the extending direction of the cell, of each outflow cell is larger than the opening area, in the cross section perpendicular to the extending direction of the cell, of each inflow cell. The porosity of the partition walls 1 of the honeycomb structure 10 is 25-55%. In the cross section parallel to the extending direction of the cell 2, the total area of the catalyst layer 5 formed on the surface of the pores in each partition wall 1 is 5% or less of the total area of the pores in the partition wall 1. |
