PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio signal processing apparatus and audio signal processing method capable of increasing sound volume, without increasing an output voltage, even in a small-sized speaker. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an audio signal processing apparatus for performing signal processing upon an input audio signal to be played back by a speaker, wherein the harmonic tone of a low-pitched sound component which is lower than or equal to a predetermined low-pitched sound cutoff frequency, contained in the input audio signal, is produced and combined with the input audio signal to produce a harmonic tone combined audio signal. The low-pitched sound component which is lower than or equal to the low-pitched sound cutoff frequency and a high-pitched sound component equal to or higher than a predetermined high-pitched sound cutoff frequency are cut off from the harmonic tone combined audio signal to produce an output audio signal. Furthermore, the low-pitched sound cutoff frequency and the high-pitched sound cutoff frequency are set according to the output characteristics of the speaker. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
