METHOD OF CONTROLLING SOFT HANDOVER FOR MOBILE INTERNET SYSTEM AND BASE STATION THEREFOR

A soft handover control method of a mobile Internet system and a BS(Base Station) employing the same are provided to prevent CID(Connection Identifier) collision between an MS(Mobile Station) and a target BS and enhance communication quality by allowing the MS to receive signals from both the target BS and a serving BS in a cell boundary. When an MS moves to a cell managed by a neighbor target BS, the MS transmits an MSHO_REQ message to the serving BS to request soft handover(S201). The serving BS determines whether to perform soft handover(S202). When the serving BS determines to perform soft handover, it checks whether a target BS belongs to the same soft handover CID usage group as that of the serving BS. When the target BS belongs to the same soft handover CID, the serving BS re-allocates a non-use(available) soft handover CID to the MS and informs neighbor BSs accordingly(S203). The serving BS includes the re-allocated CID information in an BSHO_RSP message and transfers it to the MS(S204). The MS updates a set of currently connected BSs and the CID and transmits an HO_IND message to the serving BS(S205). The MS performs a soft handover procedure to the target BS to stably perform data communication with two or more BSs(S206).
