PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elastic wave generation method capable of constituting a small-sized elastic wave generation device having a simple structure, and the device. SOLUTION: A magnet 20 is arranged oppositely to an inspection object 10, and a magnetic body rotation disk 31 is arranged between the magnet 20 and the inspection object 10. The magnetic body rotation disk 31 is rotated, and a plurality of holes provided on a concentric circle centered at the rotation axis are positioned respectively periodically on a position facing to the magnet 20. Hereby, the interval between the inspection object 10 and the magnet 20 is periodically blocked/opened, and a fluctuating magnetic field is applied to the inspection object 10, and thereby an elastic wave is generated in the inspection object 10 by a magnetostrictive effect.
