PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a polar olefin copolymer excellent in property, wherein the polar olefin exerts an excellent copolymerizability. SOLUTION: A non-polar olefin is copolymerized with the polar olefin in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a transition metal compound represented by formula (I) (wherein M is a group 4 or 5 transition metal atom; m is an integer of 1-4; n is a number satisfying the valency of M; and X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or the like) and at least one compound chosen from the group consisting of an organometallic compound, an organoaluminum oxy compound and a compound which reacts with the transition metal compound and forms an ion pair.
