PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lower cost endoscope excellent in handleability. SOLUTION: The operation part of the endoscope is provided with a base (60) for fixing the proximal end part of a light guide respectively inserted to an insertion part and an operation part and the proximal end part of an image guide facing different directions. On the base, the adapter (14) comprising a fitting part (82), a light source attaching part (84) and an eyepiece part (86) is detachably provided. The fitting part is detachably fixed to the base. The light source attaching part is provided on the fitting part and optically connected to the proximal end face of the proximal end part of the light guide in the state of attaching the fitting part to the base, and an illumination light source can be attached and detached. The eyepiece part is provided on the fitting part and optically connected to the proximal end face of the proximal end part of the image guide in the state of attaching the fitting part to the base, and an optical image is observed.
