PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow only an authorized user to use a key. SOLUTION: The key, having a fingerprint collating function which is enabled when authenticated, comprises a fingerprint sensor for detecting a fingerprint, a fingerprint information generating means for receiving the detected information from the fingerprint sensor and generating the fingerprint information, a fingerprint information storing means for storing at least a piece of the fingerprint information as registered fingerprint information, a fingerprint information identification judging means for judging whether or not the detected fingerprint information is identical to the registered fingerprint information, and a key function enabling means which enables the key function when the fingerprint information identification determining means determines that the detected fingerprint information is identical to the registered fingerprint information but does not enable the key function when it is not identical.
