Production of potassium sulfate and aluminum hydroxide from mined alunite comprises: (1) grinding and calcining the alunite and leaching it with water to produce a potassium sulfate/aluminum sulfate solution and an alumina-silica residue; (2) treating the solution with equimolar 25-40% potassium hydroxide solution; (3) separating and washing the precipitated aluminum hydroxide; and (4) evaporating the mother liquor to produce solid potassium sulfate.
