In the present invention, a plurality of optical fiber groups are housed in an optical fiber cable and optical fibers that make up each optical fiber group are coated so as to be identifiable with regard to which optical fiber group the optical fibers belong. Optical connectors (plug, receptacle) attached to both ends of the optical fiber cable are each provided with regions having formed therein insertion holes into which the optical fibers are inserted and fixed, one fiber per hole, and which are arranged at a prescribed spacing, such regions being provided in the number equal to the number of the optical fiber groups. The optical fibers in the same optical fiber group are inserted into the insertion holes in the same region, but the order of arrangement of the optical fibers in a region of the optical connector at one end is not maintained as the order of arrangement of the optical fibers in a region of the optical connector at the other end. As a result, it is possible to provide an optical fiber cable assembly which has flexural properties with no directionality and which is suitable for a relay cable between fiber bundles and the like.
