The protective guard comprises a cage-like air permeable housing (3) which surrounds the rotor blades (2a,2b) of the main rotor (2) so that the blades can be moved inside the housing to execute different flight movements. The housing is made from light strong plastics, more particularly of fully synthetic fibres such as nylon fibres. A further housing can protect the tail rotor.
