PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a train approach detection device capable of accurately determining whether the train approaches without incorrect determinations, using a reflection of a sound actively-emitted. SOLUTION: A first microphone 2 equipped in the train approach detection device 1 installed in a railroad, such as on a railroad crosstie, collects a train traveling sound. A certain sound emitted from a speaker 5 equipped in the train approach detection device 1 is reflected on a bottom portion 5 of a passing train and a second microphone 3 collects the reflected sound. An acceleration sensor 4 detects a traveling vibration of an approaching train. This train approach detection device 1 recognizes an approaching train without incorrect determinations without requiring a large-scale installation and without attaching a special sensor or device on a vehicle side. A wireless connection to an alarm means, such as a security alarm, allows railroad crews or observers to notify information on the train approach. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
