PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode effective for a negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high first-time charge/discharge efficiency and excellent cycle characteristics, while maintaining a high battery capacity and a low volume expansion ratio, when particles in which Si is dispersed in SiOare used as an active material, and to provide a lithium ion secondary battery using the negative electrode.SOLUTION: A negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery contains (A) particles in which Si is dispersed in SiO, and (B) a polyamide imide resin having an elastic modulus of 2,500 MPa or more and tensile elongation of 25% or less.
